Placing Turbelle stream pumps in a large reef tank

Placing Turbelle stream pumps in a large reef tank

Question asked by Mr Metzner / Austria

For our new tank I have ordered the Stream Kit with four pumps, which I want to use as effectively as possible. The tank has the following dimensions: 350 x 75 x 90 cm (137.7 x 29.5 x 35.4 in.)(L x D x H). If I attach one pump in either corner and operate the four units alternatingly (left front and right rear or vice versa), the wide flow streams will presumably meet in the middle ? Please be as kind as to advise how to use or control the flow most effectively, i.e. naturally in this case.

The placement of the pumps may vary slightly with the decoration (Stream Rock 6080.25, for example), but in general we recommend one pump in either corner located at 10 cm (3.93 in.) below the surface. The pumps operate diagonally as you describe:
 Channel 1: front right and rear left
 Channel 2: front left and rear right

A strong circulating current is thus produced. The pumps have to produce a flow along the length of the tank – straight ahead ! However, tests have to be run; we can only give you some general directions. Our video titled “Flow Conditions in Aquaria” clearly describes this case with four pumps.
