Electrical safety

Electrical safety

Enquiry from Mr. Maier / Germany

Could any of you say, whether DI circuit-breakers make sense in the household (I have also heard about FI circuit-breakers (earth-leakage circuit-breakers) ?
Or is handling in the aquarium still too risky even when using such a circuit-breaker .

Answer

à DI and FI circuit-breakers have the same function. They consist of a safety switch, which disconnect the current if an offset current occurs on any pole.
à Safety always makes sense and particularly where current in damp rooms is concerned. Of course, all the electrical parts of an aquarium pump are encased in resin, for example, but there is still the danger that a heating unit breaks or a lamp falls into the water, etcetera.
à In respect of units, which feature all the electrical safety marks and are additionally connected to an FI circuit-breaker, there should actually be no hazard any more. Nevertheless, we recommend to switch off electrical equipment before handling in an aquarium.
