TUNZE skimmers remove only dissolved proteins

Enquiry from Mr. Fasse / Germany

How do your automatic skimmers differ from the automatic skimmers from other manufacturers, e.g. H&S or Berlin – KUNZE skimmers are smaller and have a contact pipe.

Answer

In comparison with the skimmers you mentioned, our skimmers differ through a completely difference principle, skim off quite different substances. Firstly, a compact and relevant construction must be realised, every skimmer part must be exactly optimised: pump and impeller, the drive system which ensures a high water pressure in combination with low power consumption. An air nozzle placed directly on the pump, the water circulation in the skimmer, the reactor shape, the contact surface, etc. All TUNZE skimmers produce a large number of very fine air bubbles and thus form very large air surface. On which the proteins can stick. In contrast to air-operated counterflow external skimmers, our skimmers feature their compact construction through an immeasurably high production of air. The TUNZE automatic skimmers follow the contact skimming principle, i.e. that dissolved proteins automatically flow into the unit : an associated counterflow pump is thus not needed. The best place for our skimmers is in the basin direct, very near the production of proteins, i.e. immediately next to living stones, corals, fishes etcetera

If the units should be employed differently, e.g. in cabinet filters or with water treatment,

With missing components (mechanical filtering), the rating of the skimmer must be readjusted and surely downgraded.

For highly effective skimming in larger reef tanks we can recommend the skimmers 3140/2 and 240/3. They incorporate electronic pressure pumps and allow air outputs in excess of 1000 l/hr. The large Comline skimmer is even more efficient and with two pumps it has an air output of 1200 l/hr. With your contact principle our automatic skimmers protect living plankton. Only dissolved proteins are skimmed off, which leaves the important amino acid and larger particles in the basin. Ultimately these amino acids are responsible for the colouring of the corals and the survival of the natural food web in the biotope.
