KH rating too low

KH rating too low

Enquiry from Mr. Faasse / Holland

Eight months ago I bought the Kit 19GA(CA) with pH control 7074 for a 560 litre reef tank. I have discovered that the lime granulate 880.901 does not dissolve. Red calcareous alga also do not grow. The KH rating is situated below 4°, the pH between 7.9 and 8.3. Carbon dioxide bubbles, approx. 80 per minute without timer, the calcium rating is approx. 300 mg/litre.
Many thanks in anticipation.

Answer

First of all some questions to clarify the possible cause:
1. Does the circulation pump function in the calcium reactor ?
2. Is it connected to the mains power supply on unit 1674/3 ?
In eight months a lot of lime granulate should have been dissolved and a KH rating of 8 to 10° reached.
3. What is the nominal rating on the Set Display of the pH Meter?
Ultimately this rating defines the functioning of the carbon dioxide valve.
Example: if the tank has fluctuations from pH 7.9 in the morning to pH 8.3 in the evening, you set a nominal rating of pH 8.00. This means that the CO2 reaches as from pH 8.00 in the calcium reactor. If the mean pH rating is too low, we recommend the addition of Kalkwater by means of the Calcium Dispenser 5074 and TUNZE Osmolator.
