Unproblematical aquarium cabinet

Unproblematical aquarium cabinet

Enquiry from Mr. Burk / Germany

Today I am approaching you with a surely not everyday question: how high (clearance) must an aquarium cabinet have to mount a TUNZE cabinet kit 19GA or 19GCa (height of the glass tank = 33 cm) to allow performing without any problems the customary maintenance and servicing jobs for the skimmer, filters, etc.?
Or – how much space do I need above the filter tank, for example, in order to remove the skimmer cup without any contortions ?
The background for my enquiry is that after an accident six years ago I lost my left arm and my left leg, therefore I am paraplegic and I can move about only in a wheelchair - I would like to acquire a sea-water aquarium once more.
Standard systems with "normal dimensions", such as I had in earlier years, are out of the question because the upper edge of the aquarium must have a height of maximum 105 cm and at a basin height of 55 cm (80 cm) the cabinet must be only 50 cm (45 cm), i.e. real approx. 45 cm (40 cm) high. On using an internal skimmer, an internal filter, etc. the overall system would have to be even lower. Moreover, I prefer to accommodate the technology, with the exception of the circulation pump, in the lower cabinet.

Answer

As you have already stated, the 19GA needs about 330 mm. To this we must add still 171 mm for the filter bowl and 179 mm for the skimmer bowl. They add up to 510 mm. Unfortunately more than 450 mm. A further possibility would be to simply install the filter cabinet next to the aquarium. In your case this place would be convenient to reach and, as you wish, with the entire technology outside the basin. Such a compact filter could easily be provided with some plants, too. What do you think ?
