A tank with invertebrates

Question asked by Mr Baret / France

I would like to set up a tank with invertebrates, which has the following dimensions: length 1.50 m (59 in.) x width 0.50 m (19.6 in.) x height 0.60 m (23.6 in.); and I would like to have some tips from you with respect to lighting as well as skimming with and without filtration.

The term “invertebrates” is a little unspecific, nonetheless we will give you some examples here.
In order to illuminate a tank with a length of 1.50 m (59 in.) evenly, we believe that a lighting system with two mercury discharge lamps is required.
If your invertebrates are less gluttonous (such as Palythoa, et cetera), we recommend two mercury discharge lamps with a luminous power of 150 W, article No. 8424. If you want to keep hard corals, you will need two mercury discharge lamps with a luminous power of 250 W, article No. 8443, because they will give you the best results.
With respect to “skimming” it is important to know whether the unit is to be placed inside the aquarium or below the aquarium, or to put it in another way, do you require a horizontal or a vertical unit.
The same procedure applies for skimming as for illumination. In case of quiet animals and a certain amount of nutrients, we recommend our type 230/3 or 3130/2.
For more sensitive corals, we recommend our types 240/3 or 3140/2 or types 230/3 or 3130/2 twice. These data are applicable for the Berlin model, which means with a very low skimming action and without real filtration (and a larger number of naturally living stones).
Three solutions are available with TUNZE filters:
- a Comline CM 05 kit; all elements in vertical arrangement and constant water level regulator
- a SYSTEM SM 06 kit identical with CM 05, but in horizontal arrangement
- a cabinet filter kit 17 GB to be fitted below the aquarium In this case your aquarium has to be fitted with an outlet 1076/2 or 1074, if no hole can be drilled into the tank.
